Title of Post Doctoral Studies Base Awarded to Dongguan Library
Last December the Dongguan Library was given the title of Post doctoral Studies Base of Beijing Library and Dongguan Library given by the Guangdong Human Resources and the Social Security Department.
And last August during the opening ceremony of the Ninth Dongguan Reading Festival and South China Book Festival in Dongguan was jointly inaugurated along with the Post doctoral Studies Base of Peking University and Dongguan Library. This is the first time any domestic library to achieve such status in China. Also this accomplishment will reflect the development of reading and enhances scientific and academic research options at the Dongguan Library.
This will play an important role in cultivating personnel for document resources that can be applied to other professionals as well. In July the Base gave their first post doctoral research topic on the local history of Dongguan. Then after the opening ceremony, the resident post doctorate presented the proposal to experts which mark the start of the post doctoral research at the Base.
Dongguan Library was opened to the public in September of 2005, with a floor space of more than 44,000 square meters making it the largest library among prefecture level cities in China the library also houses other collections like the first Comic Library, the Cantonese Opera Library, the first Self-service library, the Library of Daily Life, IT Library and other Dongguan collections.
For those looking for more sophisticated materials the library also houses a foreign language reading room with a collection of more than 30,000 English books ranging from novels, arts and cultural books, design, and reference books.
The library has more than 1.7 million volumes of books and a million e-books, 9,000 e-newspapers, 2,000 multimedia and 5,000 videos. The library also offers services from lending, consultation and provides audio visual medias as well. Various activities ranging from lectures, trainings, academic exchanges and exhibitions.
