Foreigners Comments on Implementation of New Rule on Processing Residency Permits

crownForeign executives living and working in China are upset as authorities implemented a new rule that allows them to hold their passports up to 15 working days while processing and renewing residency permits stating that this can hinder potential business travel around China and abroad. These changes are proof to those people that are arguing that China is becoming a hard place to do business.

The increase to fifteen working days from the previous five prompted a series of complaints from the expat community. Also what concern companies are profits since when people are not doing any business if they are grounded. The new rules which took effect last July and officials are stating that the rules are implemented to deal with the increasing flow of foreigners that are coming to China and to protect the country’s social order and national security.

The Ministry of Public Security who handles residency applications are renewed annually said that new rules might hamper travels for foreign executive that oversees offices all throughout Asia especially in cities such as Shanghai and Beijing which encouraged foreign multinationals to establish headquarters in Asia-Pacific. Foreigners are usually required to show passports when traveling or registering in hotels.
