Beijing Releases Plans to Curb Emissions to Improve Air Quality

images10The city of Beijing have released a series of measures that will help in curbing vehicle emissions for the next five years as part of the plan to improve the air quality in which the city hope that the new measure will reduce the PM2.5 down by 25 percent or more in 2017.

Based on the new measures, Beijing will be restricting the amount of new vehicles on roads every year starting next year and hopefully by 2017 the number of vehicles on roads will not exceed 6 million. Beijing is also working on plans to charge traffic congestion fees. The city also expects to reduce the total vehicle down to 5 percent.

To help implement the new measures the city traffic management and environmental protection bureaus are preparing traffic control measures for passenger vehicles that will be implemented by the end of the year. They will focus mostly on time and zone restrictions along with making public transportation account for 60 percent of the current number of trips done in the city.

Furthermore vehicles from other cities will be given more time and area restrictions by 2014.
